Installing the macOS client

Pick the image for your processor, drag it into Applications, and approve the system extension.

Which image to download

There are two, and they are not interchangeable:

  • Logrus-arm64-v<version>.dmg — Apple Silicon (M1 and newer).
  • Logrus-amd64-v<version>.dmg — Intel Macs.

To check yours: → About This Mac.

Both builds are notarised by Apple, so you will not see the "unidentified developer" warning.

Steps

  1. Open the .dmg and drag Logrus into Applications.
  2. Launch it. macOS will ask you to approve a system extension — open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions and enable Logrus.
  3. Approval can take up to a minute; the app waits for it and picks it up on its own. No restart needed.
  4. Sign in and hit Connect.

Logrus does not appear under VPN — by design

System Settings → VPN stays empty, and that is correct. Logrus does not create a system VPN configuration: the extension brings the tunnel up directly. Everything is controlled from inside the app.

The one exception is the system kill switch. It raises a pfctl firewall, which needs a privileged component and your administrator password. If you enable it and the app reports that the system refused to arm it, install the privileged component from the in-app prompt and reconnect.

Where things live in the app

Settings are split into Connection, Security, Network, Appearance, Advanced, Diagnostics and About. The tunnel log is under About → Log. The speed test and the onboarding replay are under Diagnostics.

If it doesn't work

  • The extension won't enable — make sure the app is actually in Applications. macOS will not activate an extension from the .dmg or from Downloads.
  • The tunnel stops coming up after a system update — reinstall over the top; a macOS update can deactivate the extension.
  • To send logs: Support → Contact support, tick "Attach recent logs".
